Washington Old Village and Liberty Green have been shortlisted for Britain in Bloom 2022 UK finals.
On Friday 5 August, Britain in Bloom judges, along with local press and dignitaries, visited the Liberty Green gardens in Washington.
Britain in Bloom is a community gardening competition, which is judged on sustainability issues and planet-friendly gardening techniques.
The gardens at Liberty Green, a Kingston managed scheme, are maintained by a small group of residents. Joan Atkinson, the Director at Liberty Green, and her husband Ron will be going to London in October to attend the award ceremony.
Liberty Green has a successful history locally in the Northumbria in Bloom awards, winning Gold for six straight years in the Best Residential Community category, with Washington Village also boasting multiple award wins.
Northumbria in Bloom recognises community groups who work together to transform their village, town and city through gardening, environmental awareness and community support.
They will find out in September whether they have maintained their Gold award for a seventh successive year.
A team of Kingston volunteers took to the starting line for The Sunshine Run 5K on Wednesday 18 June, joining hundreds of others along Newcastle’s scenic Quayside to raise funds for a fantastic cause.
